"Citanje Grada - prica Radmile Matejcic"/ "In written in town - a Story of Radmila Matejcic"

Radmila Matejcic was an icon of city Rijeka, an University professor, writer, curator, archeologist and leader of many generations in acknowledging and appreciating cultural heritage. She was loved by many and recognized as a great contributor to our city's identity. Beyond her professional engagement, there was another motive – she simply recognized a specific situation in Rijeka, caused by many migrations and found a simple solution for it. Lack of identity and understanding of diverse population inhabiting the town was her motive to write a book that will present their town and it's history and heritage to it's citizens. Her goal was to unite them, to give them something in-common to have and to love – their city. Today, in the era of man migrations and many diversities, we can look up to her example and join our neighbors in exploring the place we live in, finding an interest we could shear and love.

Documentary film "Citanje Grada - prica Radmile Matejcic"/ "In written in town - a Story of Radmila Matejcic", might as well taken place as some other form of publishing, book for example. Working with a group of intellectuals with serious interest in history and cultural heritage of the city Rijeka, as well with family members of Radmila Matejcic, we went trough any theme of interest and compared modern discoveries and theses with those in book. Closely cooperating with Radmila's two daughters Jasna Gobic and Petra Jurisis, and her's colleagues and friends - Dajna Glavocic, Igor Zic, Marina Vicelja and Franjo Butorac, we created a film that summed her life, work and book. Film itself had a small discovery: old, eight millimeter formatted films that dated from the mid sixties of last century, and that had, among family celebrations and holidays, a very interesting shot of first explorations and diggings on ground of antique therms from fourth century AD. That film was recognized as matters of archeological interest and marked for further explorations and analysis.

Those films have been transformed into digital form and for the first time ever shown to the public on March 29. 2012. - as part of documentary “Citanje grada”. Today, they are trusted in State Archive of Croatia, and copies can be found at University of Rijeka, as well as family members.

Still from one of many eight milimetar films found in Radmila Matejcic forgoten belongings.

In this foto you can see (on the right) her husband Mario Matejcic, with his father David Matejcic.
